Lewis Fairbank started Hilt Core Vault in the spring of 2018 after a decade inside large professional services firms where he kept running into the same problem. Businesses would bring in consultants to fix a strategy, and the strategy would be sound, but six months later nothing had changed. The reason, almost every time, was that nobody had mapped the actual operating system underneath the strategy. Decisions were being made in one department that contradicted decisions being made in another, and nobody had a clear picture of where the handovers were or who owned them. Lewis left to build a practice that started with the operating system, not the strategy deck.
